Sad news for those of you datolite collectors. They have totally crushed the Delaware and Connecticut mine dumps. This is a great loss of great datolite piles. So get them while you can if you can.
Is a large Michigan Datolite that is domed polished. It was hard to get a good picture of this piece due to the domed high polish face. It is mainly white but has large areas of a very light purple color. You can see white datolite going through the darker areas. There is also multitudes of red spots all over the face. There is a small light yellow area in one corner. The backside is rough and untouched. It weighs in at 335 grams or 11.9 ounces. I do not have any documentation on this piece. I will try to get a better picture to show the true color. Item #B460, cost is $90 sold
A nice pair of datolite halves from the Ojibway #1 mine in Keweenaw County, Michigan. The faced halves show a white outer border with a darker color that looks like a pink/grey colors. But when looked at under a loupe, the darker areas are actually mega spray dots of red over a vary light pink base. The outer patina shows some of the original matrix as well. They are almost 2” long, and the pair weighs in at 2 ounces. This mine dump is now being ground up for road rock, What a WASTE. Soon there will no longer be any Ojibway rock left.
This is a very rare hard to find datolite from the #4 Wolverine, yes the #4 in Kearsarge Michigan. That pile is rarely worked as it produces does not usually give any worthwhile specimens. From a causal glance it looks very ordinary to ugly. But when you lQQk at it under a loupe that all changes. It has a very high glass polished face. The color of the datolite is white with many multiple variations all over it. Within the datolite, there are many areas that have dark lines, and dendritics. These also combine with spots of copper, chalcedony, basalts, and some brown mineral. A great specimen to add to your datolite collection. It weighs in at 1.2 ounces and is about 2” long. There is also spots of datolite showing through the back matrix.
A very nice paired translucent datolite from Isle Royale Island, (lake) Keweenaw County. The one half is about 3x to 4x larger than the small half. The smaller half shows a lot more mineralization coming into the main chamber. What looks like red veins in the smaller piece is actually amazing amounts of thick sprays of red color. It has the usual white outer surface of a lake datolite. The pair is a bit over 2” long, and weighs in at 59 grams.
A nice paired set of datolite from the Empire/Iron City Mine in Keweenaw County. They have a great darker center with the outer areas in white. This unique pair have many sprays of a micro dark spots throughout the dark areas, but none in the white outer regions. The set weighs in at 35 grams. Item #G701, cost is $50
A nice multicolored datolite from the Lake mine in Ontonagon County just outside of Mass City. It is a combo of white and various shades of a tan. The smaller pockets of datolite with the darker color are just loaded with sprays of micro sprays of a darker mineralization with some specs of copper. The main chamber has micro sprays across it as well. I hard to get from an out of the way and in the woods mine dump. It weighs in at 23 grams.
A nice darker colored datolite from the Delaware mine in Keweenaw County. It has a nice off white center with an outer areas with are various shades of brown. There is areas of red minerals around the outer patina, and there are sprays of red minerals across the face of the datolite. This item weighs in at 13 grams.
Is a datolite from the Lake mine near Mass City Michigan. Multiple colors in multiple chambers. It weighs in at 11 grams.

This is a very unusual datolite from the CH #21 mine dump in Calumet Michigan. The entire centers are just loaded with a dull copper color almost dendritic shapes. When you turn the polished faces, you can also see loads of spots of shiny copper as well. Few mines ever have this much copper in them. The rare datolites from the Wolverine are even rarer, and they have lightning bolts through them. The scale shown is in CM/MM not inches. The set weighs in at 8 grams. I will be listing some more CH 21 datolite, but they will all be the common type.
This is a pair of multicolored datolite from the long gone bumblebee Mine (B shaft) just east of the Minesota mine outside of Rockland Michigan. This pair has a good mix of multiple colors in all of the chambers of datolite. Great for wire wrapping or for a pair of earrings. This pair weighs in at 5 grams. Item #G948, cost is $20 sold
Is a nice multi colored datolite from the Mandan Gravel pit in Keweenaw County Michigan. This a very solid and very hard datolite, as many from this location can get as soft as chalk. It weighs in at 22 grams.
A datolite from the Delaware mine in Keweenaw County Michigan. It is a translucent with a nice healed fracture line across the slightly domed face. They crushed up all of the Delaware mine dump, so there will be no more datolites coming from that location. It weighs in at 22 grams.
Is a datolite from the Star mine in Keweenaw County Michigan. It is a nice flat polished white in color with some nice healed fractures. These fractures start out as dark mineralization, but as they get towards the center it turns into copper. It weighs in at 52 grams. A nice datolite from the star mine. Item #G805, cost is $50

This is a nice uniquely colored datolite from the Drexel mine from Keweenaw County Michigan. 3.1x2.6x1.1cm. and weighs 12 grams. It is actually a white color but it has so many sprays of copper color minerals that it gives it a pink hue. Item #G523, cost is $60

This large datolite is almost 2 ½” long and 1” thick at thickest part. It has a nice greenish hue and is from the Central Exploration mine dump in Keweenaw County. This is a large datolite from this location, and weighs in at 123 grams, 4.3 ounces. This mine dump was one of the top locations to hunt for a great mix of specimens but….. the county decided it was better use being ground up for road fill. If they would have done an assay of the material it would be worth thousands per ton. So most of the dump no longer exists. Item #G524, cost is $100 sold
A very nice and thick Empire/Iron city mine datolite from Keweenaw County. It has a light grey color center with an off white outer layer. In the center of the grey area, there is sprays of purple spots along with some dull green spots, very unusual for an Empire. There are several healed fractures on the flat face, nor is there any fracture signs on the outer patina.
Another unusual datolite pair from the Ojibway #1 which is now being crushed for road material and is disappearing fast. This set has an unusual calcite center that is surrounded by copper. The datolite is a nice white mottled with a bluish green. Each is 2.5x1.5x.75 cm, and weights in at 8 grams. Item #B571, cost is $25 sold
Is a nice two color datolie from the Delaware mine. Translucent gray and white color with no faults. It has a grape color looking mineral lines in the translucent area around the edges. It weighs in at 21 grams. Item #G807, cost is $ 50
G806 A nice pair of datolite from the lake near Isle Royale Island. This pair has the nice all white patina while inside is a very nice light pink color. A nice large datolite from the Star mine in Michigan. It is domed polished and shows the full side of this specimen. You can see several small areas of red on the one corner of the face. The entire specimen when looked at under a loupe shows the entire face has spots of red from end to end. Super nice upper end piece. It weighs in at 311 grams or 11 ounces.

A super nice slightly domed high gloss pair of Lake Mine datolite set from Ontonagon County. They are a off white color with some areas of darker shading. Under a loupe you can see a great amount of red sprays throughout the datolite. It was hard to get a good picture of this set, and the pic does not do them justice. This nice set weighs in at 101 grams.

A very nice paired set datolite from Keweenaw point, which is the farthest north point of Michigan in Lake Superior. They show great combos of colors, tans, browns, white, with red mineral sprays in both halves. The sets are 1 3/8” long, and weighs 36 grams.

A very unusual datolite from the Ojibway #1 mine in Keweenaw County. It is almost 2” long, and weighs 29 grams. It has a very unique pattern on the face. The floral looking areas are actually areas of dark and red sprays of mineralization.

A domed polished Flintsteel mind datolite from Ontonagon County. It is mounted on a plexiglass base. There are areas of grey, red and white scattered across the datolite. There is great copper color sprays in all areas of the datolite and really set off the white area of datolite. It is 62 grams including the base and is about 2 ½” long.

A wolverine #4 datolite from kearsarge Michigan. #4 is rarely worked or turned over to find any datolites. It is a white datolite loaded with red and darker minerals as well as a spot of copper on the edge of it. It is polished showing a full rounded face, and weighs in at 15 grams.

A nice thick slice of a Isle Royale Mine #2 mine datolite from Houghton County. This slab is from an old collection that just surfaced for sale. It has great green and dark crazing throughout the specimen. It has some of the original matrix of basalt still attached. There is some unusual small dark lines in groups and in several areas along with a lot of red mineralization dots. It is 3 ¼”X2 ½”X1/2”, and eighs 97 grams or 3.5 ounces. Item #G685, cost is $35
Is a Keweenaw point datolite and has a nice translucent very light yellow and greens, and has a white border. It is 1 ¾” long and weighs in at 26 grams.

A super nice red datolite from the Firesteel mine dump. The first pic show some nice sprays of copper in the bottom part of the datolite. There is also copper in the green matrix rock. It is 2 1/8" X 1 7/8" X 1/2" at thickest point, and weighs 130 grams which is 4.6 ounces. This specimen can produce lots of nice cabs.

This lot is of two polished halves of the hard to get Mesnard datolites. This mine pile is now off limits to rock hunters as it is now Federal Property. there is a very fine fracture line going across the white/pink datolite. For the micro collector when viewed under a loupe, you can see capillaries in purple, green and red colors twisting and turning throughout the specimens. The set weighs 48 grams.

This is a Caledonia datolite collected back in the 1950's. It has a nice pink sections separated by a band of lighter color. It also has sprays of copper at several spots on the outer rim. It is 11/16" thick 1 1/4" long and would be perfect for slabbing for wire wrap jewelry. I saw a 3 datolite wire wrap created by dan erickson, and it was fantastic. It weighs in at 29 grams.

A very nice paired rare wolverine #2 datolite with bands of copper shooting through it. This type is called the lightning bolt due to the jagged lines of copper. Notice that the outer patina is orange instead of the dark chlorite coating on the copper agate amygdules found right along with various types of datolites. Most the datolites are a all white color. This set weighs 4 grams.

A larger paired set of a nice wolverine 2 mine datolite. It also has the unusual ribbons of copper mineralization going through it. This is more of a line or streak of copper verses the rarer lightning bolt type. The set weighs 7 grams.

This is more of a seam deposit of multicolored datolite with copper and other minerals. This piece is a lunker it weighs 1.7 pounds, and is about 4" in lenghts, and is at max at bit over 1". This is from the Caledonia mine in mass city michigan and was mined in the 1950's. There was one non loadbearing column that was loaded with datolites. The column was blasted and thousands of datolites were brought out into the open along with some seam datolite.
There is a wierd mix of colors minerals and copper. There is light creme redish, dark creme datolite, with mixes of green and reds minerals mixing in along with spots of copper.

For a fun time take the Adventure Mine Tours in Mass City, Michigan.
Another piece just like the T53 sample listed above. This was mined from the caledonia mine in mass city back in the 1950s. It is loaded up with multiple colors of datolite with copper throughout the piece. It is 4 1/8" X 3 1/2" X 3/4" at its thickest part, and weighs 17 ounces or 1.6 pounds.

Another Caledonia mine redish datolite with multiple areas of datolite, each with different color combinations. If held up to the light, you can see light thru the large window area. The large area of datolite is at the thin end of this double sided sample. This side has 4 areas of datolite, the other side has 5. It still has some rough grind lines on it, as it was never finished grinding. It is 2 1/2" X 1 1/2" and from 1/8" to 5/16" thick, and weighs 40 grams.

Caledonia mine Mass City, Michigan pink and white datolite with copper. At the top of the picture in the green mineral area, it has small areas of pink minerals along with some green as well. There is some fixed fractures having pink minerals filling it in. also at the top in the center in what looks like solid copper is actually hundreds of copper spots. It still has some light grinding marks on the face. It is about 1 1/2" X 1" and 1/2" thick, and weighs 23 grams.

A Isle Royale mine datolite from Houghton County. It has a complex multi-celled sections with white and green in this soft datolite that weighs 28 grams.
